In this little demonstration, @Howie_Hua give's one reason why you shouldn't think of your percentage grades as the be all end all. But I think the bigger issue is that there is a perception that because we can grade things to the precision of 10ths of a percent (or smaller) that somehow the grading is also that accurate. But also the reverse is true. Using his example, if you mark something 3/4 or 3.5/4 that's a swing of 75% to 87.5 %. That is not very precise when giving the grade but by reporting via a percent it seems like it is. And then when you start to average all those grades the precision seems to get better. But even more so, I always ask teachers at the end of the year, if you have two grades, one of 72% and one of 74%, can you articulate why one is better than the other? I would argue no. And go as far as saying that if you have a student who's grade is 75% that it may be precise to the nearest percent but it's probably only accurate to +/- 5%. So if you are pining about giving a student 79% or 80%. Understand that it could just as easily be 75% or 85% with the same student ability.
