In general, humans have difficulty navigating risk. This has been magnified so much because of the pandemic. Some of the same people who refuse to wear a mask (a relatively risky activity right now) also think that vaccines are too dangerous to take. Though there is a risk with vaccines, it is quite small. That's why I like this dynamic visualization about the dangers of getting a vaccine right now. As it plays, a blue dot represents a person who would have died if they didn't get the vaccine and a red dot represents a death after getting a vaccine. Most people will watch this simulation and never see a red dot. There are other stats in the article too, so have a look.

One new podcast that I have started to listen to is Math Therapy. In it, the discussion is primarily with those who have struggled with math. I think that this is something that math teachers should hear because sometimes we forget that not everyone gets it and I think the more stories we hear the more empathetic we will become. As a sample, however, I chose the episode with Science Sam, one of my favourite (Canadian) science communicators. Check this and the rest of the math podcast episodes out on my podcast page.

One more podcast. This time from Short Wave and an episode about a professor who tries to bring the community to mathematics, especially about mathematicians in the black community. Check this and the rest of the math podcast episodes out on my podcast page https://ontariomath.blogspot.com/p/podcasts.html.
