As the we start the new year in Ontario, if you are teaching elementary math, then you know that we have a new curriculum. So it would help if we had help figuring it all out. Some of the webinars offered by the ministry, I've mentioned before and can be found here ontario.educatorwebinars.ca. But there are now other webinars scheduled. These are developed by teachers for teachers in conjunction with the OAME & AFEMO and you can sign up here

You can always count on @MathEqualsLove to share some good stuff. This time she's sharing puzzles and giving some advice on how to deal with them when we are in the era of C19. Some of them require manipulation but others are as simple as manipulating numbers. Check out all the downloads at the link below:

A couple of new podcast episodes added to my list of math based podcasts. Check them all out at the link below. But for now here's @DrEugeniaChang on NPR's Shortwave talking to us about rethinking gender in math class. And in an episode of Cautionary Tales, @TimHarford talks about the origins of statistical analysis

I think that now more than ever we need to try to find ways to shake things up (literally). That is, whether you are teaching fully online or teaching face to face but have to be socially distanced from your students while still being in class, Well, @SaraVDWerf has been doing some work on Instagram to help give you ideas on how to get kids (and you) to move. If you are on Instagram then you should follow her. She has been posting some idea videos on her story and you can see past stories on her page. But if you aren't on Instagram, you can still go to her blog and see her post on movement.

It's interesting but I don't think I have ever really thought about whether I ask students questions that have a morally wrong answer. That is, a question like "did you do your homework?" means the student is "good" if they answer "yes" and "bad" if they answer "no". Read more from @DavidKButlerUoA

In the new Ontario math curriculum, mental math is explicit (which is good) but some people may think that that means kids need to memorize stuff (which is bad). In this video @JamesTanton gives us some ways to make internalizing the multiplication table more than just a memorization exercise.

If you are looking for some help preparing for the new Ontario math curriculum then @GLewisOCT has done some work. In the slideshow, on his site (from a workshop that he did in the summer), there are a lot of resources to help but the stuff I like the most is his comparison of the old curriculum with the new. Check the slideshow out.
