A spinoff of the NPR show Science Friday is the podcast #ScienceDiction where in each episode they take on a science word and talk about its history. On this episode they talk about the word Algebra. And the thing I love the most about this is that it is that the main part of the story is about a high schooler, Gracie Cunningham, who posted a TikTok asking where algebra came from and it went viral and it seemed like she was made fun of by everyone but math professors. Including great stuff from @StevenStrogatz and @DrEugeniaCheng

One of my favourite mathematical properties is the identity property. This is because it seems so simple (and maybe useless) but the idea of multiplying by 1 and getting the same answer is super powerful in so many branches of mathematics and that is because 1 can come in many forms.
