I use this type of example when talking about expected value with my students. That is, the idea of how the insurance industry uses expected value to figure out how to set premiums.

The Superbowl is coming up and so you might like this activity that uses sports betting probabilities as a real world example. And if you want to take it a step further, this podcast series on sports betting shows why you shouldn't (ie the odds and other things are stacked against you).

I used to watch the show Numbers years ago where a mathematician solved crimes. That being said, I didn't know that this new show Prime Target was also about a mathematician, this time trying to save the world with prime numbers (literally). And this substack breaks each episode down.
