I think this is a good reminder that something seen out of context can be misconstrued. In this case, this question was shown without the original entire worksheet and of course was ridiculed by the Internet but when you see the entire worksheet it makes total sense. Especially when your intent, as a teacher, is to try to get real thinking. In some ways it reminds me of the "How Old is the Shepherd" problem from @RobertKaplinski. Anyway, look at the question (and maybe the original post) but don't forget to follow the link to the original worksheet to see what the intent was
