It was @DonFraser9 who ask the fun question about songs with numbers in the title. Which sounded like a great discussion and lots of people added songs. Why don't you join the conversation and add your favourite number based song.

In general, humans have difficulty navigating risk. This has been magnified so much because of the pandemic. Some of the same people who refuse to wear a mask (a relatively risky activity right now) also think that vaccines are too dangerous to take. Though there is a risk with vaccines, it is quite small. That's why I like this dynamic visualization about the dangers of getting a vaccine right now. As it plays, a blue dot represents a person who would have died if they didn't get the vaccine and a red dot represents a death after getting a vaccine. Most people will watch this simulation and never see a red dot. There are other stats in the article too, so have a look.

One new podcast that I have started to listen to is Math Therapy. In it, the discussion is primarily with those who have struggled with math. I think that this is something that math teachers should hear because sometimes we forget that not everyone gets it and I think the more stories we hear the more empathetic we will become. As a sample, however, I chose the episode with Science Sam, one of my favourite (Canadian) science communicators. Check this and the rest of the math podcast episodes out on my podcast page.

One more podcast. This time from Short Wave and an episode about a professor who tries to bring the community to mathematics, especially about mathematicians in the black community. I have recently read @TimHarford's new book The Data Detective and there is one story in it about Florence Nightingale and her famous graph that told the story of the infections happening and why increasing sanitary conditions would lower the death rate in the military hospitals. I have a pile of @Desmos activities that are useable but not ready for primetime (if you are interested here's a link) but I am slowly cleaning them up and releasing them. In this case, it's a way to introduce the Pythagorean theorem by focusing on the area model, well before just looking at the abstract relationship.
