It's no secret that I'm a fan of OAME and the annual OAME conference. This year's conference is the first face to face version since 2019 and will be held in Toronto. That being said, this is a preview of the featured and keynote speakers from day one. That's just a sampling of the speakers available but it at least gives you a taste. You can get more details at oame2023.ca and listen below:

I can't help but be fascinated by what ChatGPT can do. And there are definitely people who think it's the end of everything. But like all AI, there are good points and bad points. But I think regardless of your opinion as a teacher, the sky isn't falling but if you don't start to change some of what you do and value in class, you won't be doing your skills any favours. In this piece, @MPershan does a pretty good job of laying things out.

I'm actually not sure what I would do with this but it might fit as some light hearted fun when you introduce Pythagorean Theorem, specifically, if you do something where you start with the area model with squares and expand to other regular shapes like this

The general public probably thinks that all you need to know to be an effective math teacher is how to do math. But the reality is that it is so much more. In this post @nomad_penguin lays it all out

I have done this "trick" with numbers close to 50 before. Regardless, the most important part is that we show why it works and let students know that it's not a trick at all.
