"This activity was exhilarating for me as well as the students" - that was @AlexOverwijk talking about a, (relatively) straightforward activity where students start with some fractions and have to extend the pattern and then connect the fractions to Pythagorean theorem. The end result is some "unexpected beauty"

This might be new for grade 9 teachers but @MSBJacobs reminds us that it doesn't take much planning to do a good number talk, just some thought out questions. Here he does a progression of percent questions that help students hone their mental math skills. I have a draft Desmos activity that kinda does the same thing here.
