Though this isn't necessarily a math link, I think it's important for all teachers and administrators to see. If you've followed this blog then you have probably seen me post links many times from @RobertKaplinski. This time it's a bit different. Follow this link to watch the full video of his #NCTMLA22 talk to get some insights about foster students that you may have in your classes. In fact, you may have them in your classes right now and not even know it. Regardless, understanding some of the struggles they may have is the first step into helping them succeed. Do not miss this.

Even if you are not interested in the grade level he's working on here, the concepts @JRappaport27 is working on to support the thinking classroom should give you all some ideas to expand out to in your own classes.

Working on a sequence of Check Your Understanding (gr. 4-6) questions by bridging the research of @pgliljedahl, @pamseda1 and @kyndallab. Welcoming feedback. #mtbos @KirstDy @NatBanting @davidpetro314 @BurdessAlicia @DanShuster (who clued me into many of these tasks) pic.twitter.com/idYRjqCdLG

First in the larger sequence is the Tax Collector. But we might build a Number String first. Our goal for consolidation is a collaborative approach to sense-making. Students then have time for reflection while explaining their understanding of the math. #mtbos @KirstDy https://t.co/fOiuNhl4Us pic.twitter.com/mOO8unGDxI

I love when teachers find websites that could be used to collect data in an interesting way. It would be cool to have students submit images (maybe even of themselves) to discuss the implications of what is considered "beautiful"In maths enrichment we worked with @microbit_edu and @Desmos to graph out how quickly the temp of Pizza drops, then we used Google Maps and scale drawings to map out the distance we could cover to deliver 🍕 without complaints! #mathsbtc pic.twitter.com/lQ8tlm0rLW

If we can do a better job of connecting play with mathematics, then we could make huge strides in helping show students that they can do math. In this post @a_mcsquared, gives us some reasons to focus on play and some ways to get there. I love @sergeballif's Golf game.Curriculum Tags: All
