I'm a big fan of math based games. Especially when they can be used to hone basic skills. In this case, multiplication facts in the form of a "tic tac toe" style game called Number Hive that you can play against an AI or another online player. And I really like this description and endorsement by @MathGarden. It's pretty easy to get started and play so give it a shot.

I always like how @Howie_Hua breaks down why math "tricks" work. In this case, I don't know if I would call this a classic trick but I have done this sort of algebraic break down for similar problems with my students.
