I think a little geometry could help discover why this works. Here it is in Desmos. When you see it, it makes total sense and all that matters is one piece of wood is twice the width of the other.Let's learn how to factor quadratics where the leading coefficient isn't 1 without guessing and checking. (Okay I know that sounds boring but I like this video lol)
